Serendipity (n) finding something good without looking for it

I came home one day to an unexpected surprise: a puppy! Here’s the thing: I am terrified of dogs – no matter the size. This one in particular would grow to be a big dog. So my initial reaction was to run and hide…which I did for a long time. But the poor pup was scared and crying; my compassion kicked in so I walked towards him slowly, let him out his crate, fed him, gave him water, and let him outside. Fast forward to months and months later this little guy became my best friend. Anyone who knows me knows that my phobia of dogs run deep. So for me to call one my best friend is major. Thanks to this little guy- who’s really a big guy- I now understand the deep love and attachment people have for their pets. They truly do become family. I learned that they are intelligent, have unique personalities, they are fiercely loyal, great companions, and very funny.

This experience was serendipitous. What an unexpected but pleasant blessing. How grateful I am now to have allowed this little creature to teach me that all of God’s creations are a blessing meant for us to look after and enjoy. We have so much to be thankful for.

Have you ever experienced something unexpected that turned out to be a great blessing? I bet if you think about it for a while you’ll realize you have. And once you do give thanks for it.

  1. Exactly! Sometime the things we don’t think we need or want is unexpectedly give to us and it’s exactly what we needed. Keeping an open mind and trying is so important!
